Midwifery

Dr Kokayi explores the field of midwifery and how its being impacted by the medical establishment. The legacy of black midwives is discussed with his three guest midwives along with the fact that the field is changing, becoming more academic and less hands on. Dr Kokayi points out that the US has a higher infant mortality rate than Cuba and how the nature of a holistic intake and care helps to lower this. Along with their discussion is the reference to the Black midwifery conference “Reclaiming the Wise Woman Within”, occurring a few days after this radio appearance.
