Benefits of Community Acupuncture

Dr Kokayi discusses with acupuncturist Susana Byer a community acupuncture program starting at the Kokayi center. In community acupuncture patients are treated at a fraction of the usual costs in a room where other patients are also being treated. The focus is on systems of acupuncture that rely on using points on exposed surfaces of the body; the ear, hands, and feet. Whole body representations can be found on these an other parts of the body and can be used to treat a variety of problems.

 

Breast Cancer Commentary and Cancer Treatments


Dr Kokayi focuses on Breast cancer with the understanding that the central issue in dealing with prevention and in many cases treatment is estrogen dominance. He looks at the different ways woman get into an estrogen dominant situation; from nutrient deficiencies to xenohormones, estrogens in the environment. With his guest Dr Anne Jeffres they discuss the role Chinese medicine can play in the treatment and prevention of breast cancer, looking at different diagnostic patterns that can lead to breast cancer and how to treat them with acupuncture and Chinese herbs.

 

Arthritic Treatments

Dr Kokayi discusses treatment approaches to the different types of arthritis.  Current treatment methods with NSAIDS are critiqued along with the discussion of herbal formulas that Dr Kokayi has used in his own practice.  Dr Kokayi reframes the understanding of what is happening in arthritis so that it is appreciated energetically as well as biochemically and biomechanically.  Acupuncture, Chinese medicine, and nutrition are discussed as they relate to this model.  Callers were taken.  

 

Hypertension – Joshua Shome

In this broadcast, the Global Medicine Review’s guest, Acupuncturist Joshua Shome, talks about using acupuncture as a way to treat prehypertension and long standing hypertension. Mr. Shome discusses some of the principles of using acupuncture for circulatory disturbances, explaining how acupuncture must be used in the context of an assessment of each patient’s lifestyle and emotional state. He goes on to talk about what a person might experience in being treated by acupuncture for hypertension –,explaining how there are immediate results.
