<itunes:summary>Dr Kokayi interviews Bud Weiss on a tried and proven method for treating asthma and other physiologic problems that result from over breathing or silent hyperventilation. This leads to significant loss of Carbon dioxide and the resultant inadequate distribution of oxygen to the cells and tissues as per the Bohr effect as well as spasming of smooth muscle tissue. This method, the Buteyko method, was developed by the Russian physician, Konstanin Buteyko in 1952. The Buteyko method has garnered some attention of late because Jane Brody, the NY Times health writer, shared a positive article on it as a result of a friend of hers with severe asthma for over forty years, achieving a markedly improved state just from his mastery of the Buteyko breathing method.  Once the principle of the Buteyko method is appreciated it becomes apparent that this method would also be very useful in treating hypertensives and people with allergies.</itunes:summary>
