Mr Ellner has used hypnosis extensively within a medical framework and has documented its effectiveness in helping people with chronic pain. Chronic pain can be impacted on by shifts in consciousness facilitated through the hypnotic process. Cross cultural comparisons are made between hypnosis and trance states used by other cultures to alter mind space.
